Why you must get skilled right now?
With 4th industrial revolution creeping into every sector be it Finance, Healthcare, or Agriculture etc., with a wave of disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Cyber security, Cloud etc., the changes predicted by this wave are sure to ignite a globalized transformation.
A blog by Hera Khan on ‘The Urgent Need to Skill’ stresses on the fact that in 2020, the median age in India is just 28, compared to 37 in China and the US, 45 in Western Europe, and 49 in Japan. The Economic Survey 2019 noted that while the country as a whole will enjoy the “demographic dividend" phase, some states will start transitioning to an ageing society by the 2030s. On similar thoughts, the blog highlights that, demographics can change the pace and pattern of economic growth, while China’s spectacular growth has already benefited from a demographic dividend, India is yet to do so.
But the question is, as the young population of India, are we ready to sail in this tide of change? As a nation of talented youth, we require a lot of introspection for that matter.
The blog takes us through the historical and present significance of skilling and outlines the effects brought in by the previous three revolutions, which created havoc due to the fear of technology taking over human jobs. Similarly, it outlines a research suggesting that, the fourth industrial revolution is capable of eliminating jobs of about 30% of world’s human labour. This change will require about 375 million people to switch to another job category, being displaced by automation, know more about insights from the blog here.
The blog also emphasizes on the theory of “Natural Selection”, as specified by the 19th century modern biologist Darwin, also used as a synonym to “survival of the fittest”, coined by Herbert Spencer to suggest that only those who upskill will be fit to survive in an era of disruptive future technologies.
In such a case, it isn’t surprising that skilling tops the chart of top 10 priorities of many companies. Companies these days, are leaving no stones unturned to skill their workforces to make them stay relevant in the technologically advanced future of jobs by ensuring their future-readiness.
It’s time to build your skill strategy to win this talent war!
