Technological Innovations Changing the Face of the Staffing Industry
The workplace is changing rapidly and so are the dynamics of talent planning, performance management, and candidate/employee experience strategies. Additionally, the HR value chain is undergoing a radical transformation. Technology has been a boon to mankind in terms of freeing the time to try more intelligent and productive work! It continues to drive innovation across multiple facets of life. During the pandemic, employers were regularly using technologies to track their employees through methods like virtual clocking in and out, monitoring work computer usage, emails or chat. While some companies track productivity, others monitor employee engagement and well-being to better understand employee experience. Not surprisingly, the staffing industry is also seeing a major shift.
Let’s evaluate various functions/processes across different facets of the staffing industry where technological innovation has made an impact:
Profiling and sourcing: AI (Artificial Intelligence) search engines do extremely complex searches to support a multitude of demand requirements from the same person! The search engine can identify the relevant experience tenures across each of the skill sets and profile the candidates for a better match.
Matching: Not only are the AI engines able to match the right candidates to the job requirement but they are also able to effectively do a reverse match and help sell existing candidates whose current assignments are due for completion.
Scoring: Complex algorithms can score candidates based on their performance, attitude, etc. based on the inputs provided.
Candidate selection: There are engines that can help search for specific keywords and requirements that have been given in the job description in the candidate's resume. Based on this, the initial shortlisting can be done.
Interviews: Today digital assistants can help conduct interviews and the complexity of evaluation can be tuned based on AI. Face recognition and other visual imaging techniques can even assess body language and go beyond just the evaluation of core skills.
Salary negotiations: Based on the prior experience and the skill demand situation in the market, AI tools can predict the right salary structure that can be offered to select candidates.
Candidate engagement: Chatbots and digital assistants can help engage with the candidate till onboarding and can also conduct predictive analysis to peg potential dropouts.
Onboarding: The complete process of onboarding has now become digital and seamless – from document collection to digital ID card creation! All of this is possible because of technological innovation.
Employee engagement: The constant engagement with employees done using people surveys, appraisals, and other 360-degree feedback mechanisms are all collated using intelligent automation and analytics are provided on how to maximize performance. Tailored L&D (learning and development) programs can be suggested too.
Exit/ Full and final settlement: More than just automation of separation and the calculation of dues, the current technology captures much more valuable information on the experience of the employee during the tenure, their feedback during the assignments from various quarters, etc. This helps to rank employees and give a score. Based on this, the elite can be offered more interesting roles, packages, etc.
All in all, the entire process around staffing is being driven towards excellence and optimization using technology. This also provides an imperative for HR leaders to assess the impact of tech intervention on their organization’s operations and strategic goals. It is critical for leaders to understand that large-scale shift are changing how business gets done and what key enablers influence their candidates, associates, and employees. Organizations that respond effectively to these tech trends can ensure that they stand out from their competitors and gain significant mileage.
